Our Vision

Through our 3-year funding model, DC WISE aims to help non-profit organizations expand their programs and services that are empowering, positive and impactful for women and children.

Our Mission

DC WISE, Inc (DC Women In Solidarity for Empowerment) is a non-profit organization committed to investing in and enhancing organizations that positively impact the lives of women and children in the District of Columbia.

DC WISE was created by a group of like-minded women to raise funds for service organizations serving at-risk and disadvantaged women and children in Washington, DC.

Each year, DC WISE makes a 3-year commitment to a new partner organization to provide unrestricted funds to support their operations and programming.  By supporting our partners through unrestricted funds we enable our partners to make nimble financial decisions – whether to add a staff member, fund a new program, or fill in the gaps where the city’s budget falls short.

Our Story

DC Women In Solitary for Empowerment (DC WISE) began with a sense of gratitude shared between friends over dinner. In 2014, the future board members of DC WISE came together because they shared a desire to give back to the city that had helped them build successful careers in the real estate sector. “We’d all been so lucky because of the city’s growth, but we were also keenly aware many residents were being left behind.”

Together they founded DC WISE with the purpose of raising critically needed funds for non-profits providing direct, impactful services to women and children in need.

The Board of Directors serves as the center of a wider giving circle where “everyone shows up, and everyone gives.”  They are supported by a host committee who helps to organize the annual DC WISE gala.

Together DC WISE has raised over $1,000,000 for our partner organizations since 2014.

Being a DC WISE partner meant the difference between hiring a full-time Volunteer Coordinator and limping along indefinitely without one. Thanks to the one-year seed-funding from DC WISE, coupled with two subsequent years of legacy gifts, we were able to create, and now sustain the position as a permanent fixture in our organization. It’s truly the gift that keeps on giving.
